Mailing it in today.

Here's a link to a cool NY Times article on the evolution of baseball strategy from 1911. All of this stuff a baseball fan should know about (although some of it has been debunked by more advanced sabermetric number crunching (batters having the "ability" to decide where the ball goes upon striking it with their bat? C'mon...)), unless you're the kind of person who has trouble wrapping their minds around such Herculean ideas as 'circle block goes in circle hole'. So there's that...

Obama making like David Krejci and breaking the door down

OK. Some pretty important news came out late last night. Obama acquired intel on the whereabouts of one Enemy # 1 Osama bin Laden and had him brought to justice at some point during the day yesterday. His speech on the matter was direct from the 'Don't F*ck With Me!' file:

Just as Obama made America a little happier today with his announcement late last night, so did David Krejci. Well...a smaller segment of America, anyway, as the Bruins first line ran rampant over the Flyers on Saturday afternoon and lead the Bruins charge of 7 goals. Krejci contributed 2 of them along with 2 assists as well as a +3 rating. Just as Obama broke down the door, Krejci did as well, by exacting a small amount of revenge on the same Flyers team that ended his season prematurely in last year's 2nd round choke job. Message: America. Hell Yeah. and also don't count out the Bruins.

Happy May Day Everybody

In honour of a pseudo-holiday that nobody even recognizes anymore here for your enjoyment is Dale Hawerchuk's Game 3 winner and Brad May's series clinching OT goal in Game 4 vs. the Bruins in the 1993 Adams Division Semi's. Rick Jeanneret on the call as always.

Welcome to Me

I'm not gonna stand (sit?) here and pat myself on the back, but go me for getting up the ambition to do my first 2 post with actual words day. YAY. OK, now that that's over with on to the regularly scheduled programming...

I should probably disclose that I am an unabashed fan of Toronto sports even though I currently live in New Hampshire (within the evil beating heart of Red Sox and Patriots country...). The only local sports team that I tolerate is the Bruins, although I am just as big/if not more a fan of the Maple Leafs. As noted in the site description I am going to be hopefully overjoying you (joying? passably irritating is most likely it) with some tidbits of info and intriguing story lines from throughout the realm of sports (and yes I like to fancy myself as a knight on horseback bringing forth the great news of sports to my kingdom of followers...and, no you have a mental problem.)

So in that vein of bringing the news of the sports and teams that I follow there really isn't going to be anything that's off limits around here. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to get some other features going on this site (podcasts, fan polls, etc.) to more fully immerse my kingdom in my mostly incoherent ramblings.

Until then keep it real, and don't step on the cat.

Regards,

LP

The perfect example of keep your head up...

God, Andrew Ference is becoming quite the hot topic around these Stanley Cup playoffs isn't he? Thankfully Bruin's D-man Andrew Ference will not be suspended by the NHL for his somewhat derided hit to the melon of the Hab's Jeff Halpern in last night's ECQF Gm 7. People can rant and rave about how Ference's intent was to hit the head of Halpern as he skated by, but the truth of the matter is Ference did not move in any manner to get in the way of Halpern. He stood still. And last time I checked a player has a right to literally stand in a spot on the ice and not be forced out of said spot in the event that an opposing player skates into him. You say,"At least it could have been a borderline interference call!" seeing as Halpern was not in possession of the puck. I think it was a good no-call regardless of the fact that the ref's may have missed it. Don't agree with me? Have a look for yourself...

Hey Habs I think he might be talking to you...

Closing statement after game 7 last night at TD Garden:

He's got it right on.

Diamondbacks Rediculous All-Star Game Promo

See, didn't I say there would be some non-hockey material for your perusal? I have no words for how bad this makes me feel for the Arizona Diamondbacks as an organization.

It hurts in so many different ways. (Although I must admit that I absolutely lost it when I saw the giant Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, and Luis Gonzalez mascots come dancing around the corner...LMFAO!!!)

Mark Recchi M.D.

Here's some proof that Mark Recchi does indeed have some medical training in case anyone was wondering....Mike Cammalleri...

A Few Thoughts On Andrew Ference

Ok. By now I am sure that anybody that wants to make a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be has already done so and therefore I will not partake in said activities. One thing I will say is that out of all people, Andrew Ference is not the first (nor even the first person on the Bruins, that would probably go to Brad Marchand) that would be expected to do something like this:

Ference is the guy that drives a Zip Car and tries to rally other NHL players to the environment's aid by trying to offset the league's carbon footprint. Although when he claims that he had no intention of committing such an act of incredible disrespect towards the Montreal crowd I'd have to imagine that he did this consciously regardless of his other good deeds. And yea it was rude, but this is only adding another minor piece of wood to the B's/Habs bonfire. If this had happened in Boston and perhaps P.K. Subban/Mike Cammalleri had flipped off the Garden crowd there would be much the same immediate outrage, but I don't believe there would be as long lasting an impression as it seems there is going to be in Habsland.

The NHL seems to agree with my thoughts seeing as earlier today they fined Ference a pittance of $2500. Nothing close to the suspensions for similar acts earlier this season by Andy James Wisniewski (of the Habs) and Sean Avery. Although I am a Bruins fan (you may have noticed based on the title of the blog) I will admit when the league dropped the ball by not being consistent in their response to the action. They held Wisniewski out of games for his inappropriate gesture to another player, but they only fine Ference for his crowd-displeaser?

In closing, the league needs to get their act together and draw a straight line in the sand on inappropriate behavior by its players instead of relying on the "Wheel of Justice" to blur any one's line of what is acceptable or not.

This makes me laugh
